Eric and Zac in Maui, Day 5
Zac and I awoke at 5:30am to see the sunrise. We were able to see the sun, but there was a stand of trees between us and the sun. So it wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. Tomorrow morning we’re going down the the beach for sunrise.
After the sunrise we went back to bed for a little snooze. It rained while we slept so today was actually the latest we’ve slept since we’ve been here.
At 8:30am we got up again and decided to go to the red sand beach in Hana. Turns out the red sand beach is sometimes used as a nudist beach. The locals aren’t too happy about it and neither was Zac. There were only three people there, two guys and a girl, all without a stitch of clothing on. It wouldn’t have bothered me, after all, it’s the only red sand beach I know of. I don’t think they would diminish our enjoyment of the beach.
From there we went to the beach at Hana Bay. We played in the ocean and strolled the black sand beach. At 11am we ate lunch at Tutu’s. We had cheeseburgers and fries. Real haolie food, but it was Hawaiian beef, buns, and veggies.
We made a quick stop at Hasegawa’s for a fee items to marinate our steaks. Zac grabbed a bag of chewie Chips Ahoy cookies for a snack. Which we did promptly ate when we got to the Hale. The steaks were seasoned with pepper, sea salt, and some soy sauce.
After we prepped the steaks, we headed to Hamoa beach for some awesome body surfing. We were there for four hours having a fantastic time. The beach is a salt and pepper beach, a mixture of white and black sand. The waves were great and we rode quite a few all the way to the beach.
Six total hours at the beach we were getting hungry. We each took a good long shower when we got back to the Hale. Then it was meal time. Zac cooked the rice and I cooked the steaks. The meal was ono! The steaks were a bit salty, but had great flavor. I think everything tastes better when you cook outdoors.
It’s 7:30pm and it’s almost pitch black. Time to head to bed so we can up in the morning and watch the sunrise. What else are we going to do? There’s no electricity here.
Tomorrow we will take the Hana Highway back to Kahului and stop at all the places we didn’t get a chance at on the way here. Then we catch a 4:40pm flight to Honolulu, then Lihue, where we will meet up with the rest of the family. Maybe then I can upload the last two days blog entries and pictures.
Aloha!
Here are some additional photos we took around Hana.
