Momi and Malia Leave for Hawaii, Again
This is the second time in a little over two years that Momi and Malia have left for Hawai’i without Zac and I. (Though this time, Zac and I will be joining them, albeit almost a week later.) Both are members of a local halau (dance group) and love to dance the hula. So in April of 2006, when Malia was a sophomore in high school, they went to Hawai’i for nine days to attend the Merrie Monarch Festival. This festival is like the hula olympics. One of these days we’ll go back so I can enjoy all of the great dancing.
Anyway this morning I took Momi and Malia to the airport to join their Campfire sisters for their Wohelo trip to Hawai’i. Did I mention this is the second time Momi and Malia have left for Hawai’i without Zac and I? Joining them on this trip is Wendy (Momi’s co-leader), Katie, Kaylee, Rebekah, Sarah and Malia. The girls have been in the Campfire organization for ten years. This trip is their reward for staying with Campfire and earning their Wohelo award.
They will spend two nights in Waikiki and then ten days on the big island (Hawai’i). Uncle Bo says the big island mo betta! After touring the big island, horseback riding, visiting the volcano, swimming at the waterfalls, seeing the black sand beaches and the green sand beach, they will then fly to Kaua’i for another ten days.
Zac and I leave next Monday for Hawai’i. We will be flying with Joe and Joan, my in-laws. The in-laws are headed to the big island where they will tootle around the island in a VW camper bus. Zac and I will be spending six days on Mau’i visiting Molokini, the red sand beach in Hana, and the Haleakala crater. On Saturday we fly to Kaua’i to meet the girls along with several family members and friends of all the girls, including Momi’s sister’s family from Madison.
So I have just under five days to get ready for Hawai’i which includes some crazy hours at the day job and a special piece of jewelry I can show you when we return from Hawai’i. Tonight will also be my last hockey game until July. I think I can trade seven hockey games for 16 days in paradise.
