Ohana in Kaua’i, Day 12
Today our journeys took us to Kealia Beach, just north of Kapa’a for some boogie boarding. The kids (Malia, Kaylee, Nicole, Zac, Jake, Sarah, and John) had a great time playing in the ocean. The adults had a good time riding the waves as well.
Next we took a stroll through the Kaua’i Products Fair, which is like a flea market. Zac bought a necklace and a bracelet. Malia, Kaylee, and Nicole bought a couple of padeos (wraps). I saw a couple of Aloha shirts I may pick up before we return home.
The evening was spent back on Ke’e beach. We had burgers and chicken. After dinner we put on the snorkels and went for a swim. We saw and swam close to probably a dozen honu (turtles). It was very cool to watch and be next to these very mellow creatures.
We were joined on the beach with our new friends Ann, her children Noah, Alex, Isaac, and her neighbor Linda. I also can’t forget to include their puppy Mele, who had a great time running up and down the beach. Ann and her husband, Guy, own the Hokulele Hale, where we are staying. It was great visiting with them. Ann and Momi are two of a kind, like long lost friends who’ve found each other again. Noah was very helpful in locating the way across the reef to where the turtles were feeding when we went snorkeling.
If you are looking to spend a few days in Hanalei and you need a place for up to 18 people, you should definitely stay at Hokulele Hale. It’s a short walk of less than two blocks to Hanalei Bay.
We were hoping the sky would be clear so we could see the stars away from the glow of Hanalei. Not that there is much light noise from Hanalei, but it’s pitch black at Ke’e. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we couldn’t see a single star in the sky.
